Church Urged To Get Involved In National Affairs

The 2014 Ghana Baptist Convention has underscored the need for the church to get actively involved in national affairs. The Convention expressed the view that since government policies affected all members of the church irrespective of their party affiliation, the leadership of the church needed to get involved in national issues. Reverend Justifier Nii-Noi Ocquaye, President of the 2014 Conference, made the call on behalf of the 2014 conference in Accra, dubbed the 26th Annual refresher course retreat and business. The four-day conference was on the theme: The great commission: Our mandate and mission. He, however, called on the leadership of the church to act on behalf of the citizenry instead of serving governments, while upholding the churchs duty to help the government to improve the well-being of the people. Churchs involvement in politics Rev. Ocquaye said that would ensure that the government was held accountable for their dealings with the citizenry for when the economy is distressed and the people are feeling the pinch but they are told that the prospects are good, the citizens are left in despair. He, therefore, called on the church to get involved in national affairs, describing its involvement as obligatory. Rev. Ocquaye said the influence of the church should not be confined to just regular prayer for those in government. A disciple making church Rev. Ocquaye said the theme of the conference was chosen to help the leadership of the branches of the Baptist Church to reflect on the vision of the conference to achieve the great commission through a well -organised, recognised and equipped professional body. Referring to Mr Bob Gillians book titled Finishing the great commission, Rev. Ocquaye said disciple making churches should have a written recipe for making disciples. He explained that if a church did not know what was expected of it it would probably not be effective in achieving anything.
