Mr James Gunu, the Akatsi-North Chief Executive, on Monday urged Fulani herdsmen to do some re-arrangement of their cultural chore of tendering cattle to enable their children enroll in schools. He was addressing Moslems separately at Atanve, Ave-Afiadenyigba, Nudovukope and Dakpa as they marked the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations. Mr Gunu said engaging children in herding was against both national and international conventions on child rights and also appealed to the adults to take advantage of the non-formal education evening classes to educate themselves. The DCE said the government would not discriminate against any child and would therefore not allow any of them to be denied opportunities such as education through the actions and inactions of their parents. Mr. Gunu assured them that the government was addressing current socio-economic challenges in the country and would also fulfill its campaign promises. Calling for hygienic lifestyles to prevent ailments, he said the Assembly would be subsidizing building of toilets in old homes and permits for new buildings would only be granted if the designs had toilets. Mr. Gunu said some communities were already benefiting from the Assembly�s support for toilets, under the Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) project. He said 80 boreholes were being sunk in some communities in collaboration with �Life Time Wells� an NGO. Mr. Gunu appealed to Muslims to continue to pray for peace and donated bags of rice and cartons of soft drinks on behalf of Government to the Moslems. They prayed for the DCE and the nation and condemned the Nigerian Boko Haram sect and said their actions were non-Islamic.
