Former Okaikoi South Member of Parliament, Nana Akomea says the court decision ordering embattled businessman Alfred Woyome to refund the about 51.2 million cedis to the state is an indictment on the Mahama-led administration. The Supreme Court in a unanimous decision ordered Woyome to pay back the money acquired illegally from the state after years of litigation. According to the court, the contracts upon which he made and received the claim was in contravention of Article 181 (5) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which requires such contracts to be laid before and approved by Parliament. The ruling was based on a review application filed by a former Attorney General, Martin Amidu, on Tuesday. But Alfred Woyome according to reports is lacing his boots to challenge the unanimous decision by the Supreme Court. Speaking on Asempa FM�s Ekosii Sen programme on Tuesday, an elated Nana Akomea said the verdict is a victory for the rule of law. He said Ghanaians can now heave a sigh of relief after the Supreme Court ruling on the infamous Woyomegate scandal. The former Okaikoi South MP could not fathom why government ostensibly covered-up for the past five and half years. Nana Akomea said, �considering the many embarrassment that has bedeviled the Mahama-led administration; Woyome judgement is another disgrace for government,� he added. On the contrary, a member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Eric Ametor Quarmyne said government has been �overly democratic� in the Woyome case. He explained that the Attorney General�s Department played an active role in getting this verdict, thus the impression being created that government condoned and connived with Woyome is misplaced. Ametor Quarmyne promised government�s commitment to remain accountable to the citizenry.
