NDC Top Cadre Enters Race

A fundamentalist adherent to the National Democratic Congress principles of probity and Accountability has decided to step into the race for the Greater Accra Regional Chairmanship of the party. In doing so, Comrade Stephen Akwetey is leading his campaign with a fantabulous programme of action for the revival of Greater Accra NDC that no party delegate worth any amount of party love can resist. Unlike the four other contestants in the same race who are spending their energies shadow-boxing, Mr. Akwetey has preceded his campaign with the setting up of a fund for NDC members in the region. He calls it a Health and Education Fund for Greater Accra NDC. On Wednesday, The Enquirer was shown a 15th July, 2014 certificate covering the registration of the fund. Mr. Akwetey also revealed in an interview that discussions with Unibank, about establishing an account for the fund, are already completing. In the interview, Mr Akwetey explained the strategic position that the fund would take in his administration as Greater Accra Regional Chairman to end despondency that has currently enveloped the partys support base. To turn around the current arrangement in which the party support base in the region has no control over their Member of Parliament, he said, under him as Chairman, an aspiring MPs eligibility to contest on the partys ticket would be determined by the extent to which he contributes to the fund. The fund would also bring about the situation where needs of the party people, especially health bills and funds for education, would be sorted directly from the fund, instead of MPs. In addition to being a member of a five-member committee which pooled opinions for the formation of the NDC in 1992, he also at a point, was the chairman of the party in Krowor. In the NDCs forthcoming national and regional delegates election in October, he would be contesting against Nii Tackie Commey, Daniel Amartey Mensah, former MCE for LEKMA, Henry Ekow Manly-Spain, a businessman, and the incumbent Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Joseph Ade Coker.
