Butcher Gets 24 Months For Stealing Goats

A 23 year-old butcher at Akuse Zongo, Issifu Issakah aka Big Joe has found himself on the wrong side of the law for stealing goats. The Odumase Krobo Circuit Court has therefore, sentenced him to 24 months imprisonment with hard labour. The court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of his accomplice, Senyo who is at large. Issakah initially pleaded not guilty, but later changed his plea to guilty. The prosecutor, Chief Inspector John Akuetteh, told the Odumase Krobo Circuit Court, presided over by Asmah Akwasi Asiedu, that the complainants in the case were policemen from the Akuse Police Station. Issakah is a butcher at Akuse Zongo while Senyo, aka Abambam is believed to be hiding at Akuse and its environs. The prosecutor said on June 1, 2014, the complainants had information that some thieves had stolen goats from Asutsuare and Kodjanya and kept them in a house at Akuse Zongo. The informants told the complainants that the thieves after leaving the goats in the said house left the place. The complainants, he said, armed with that information laid ambush at the Islamic School at Akuse Zongo with the informants. He said suddenly, Issakah and Senyo were spotted on a motorbike with another goat and were therefore, given a hot chase but they abandoned the motorbike and escaped. He said the complainants took the motorbike and the goat to the police station and lodged a complaint. He said the motorbike did not belong to the accused persons, so the owner pursued and arrested Issakah and handed him over to the police. Issakah led the police to the spot where they had kept the other goats. The animals were retrieved and kept as evidence. The prosecutor said the same day, Dedo Ablor of Asutsuare, Awusi Tamatey, Margaret Korley Ayongo, Joseph Gagblah of Asutsuare and Kadjanga came to the police station and identified the animals as theirs.
