Court Remands Two Robbers In Custody For Killing Driver

Two suspected armed robbers who allegedly shot a 42-year-old driver dead at James Town, near New Abirem, have been arrested by the New Abirem Police. Kofi Asare was shot in the chest by the armed robbers, after he had fled into the bush to escape from the robbers. His body was later retrieved by a search party led by the police. Suspects The suspects, Padmore Antwi, 24 alias Joe, and Kwame Gyamfi, 25, have since been remanded in prison custody by the New Abirem District Magistrate Court presided over by Mr Iddrisu Issah Kpeglah. They are to re-appear on August 19, 2014. Briefing the Daily Graphic at the Oda Divisional Police Headquarters yesterday, the New Abirem District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr Seth Yirenkyi, said on July 24, 2014, two robbery victims, Kwabena Annoh and Collins Suraj, reported to the police that a 2007 Mercedes Benz bus with registration number GR 1417 -R on which they were travelling from Kade to Kumasi had been attacked by five suspected armed robbers. He said the robbers allegedly succeeded in collecting GH�4,800 and three mobile phones from the victims and later fled into the bush. Mr Yirenkyi said some of the robbery victims identified the two suspects at an identification parade at the New Abirem Police Station. They were subsequently arraigned before the New Abirem District Magistrate Court which remanded the in prison custody.
