Accra Mayor Deflates Nana Addo Tells Him Show Me What You Did In Accra

The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra, Dr. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, has tasked the 2012 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to point to projects his government undertook in Accra before leaving office in 2008. Reacting to Nana Addos claim that the Better Ghana Agenda of the National Democratic Congress was sinking, Dr. Vanderpuije wondered about the sincerity in the claim by Nana Addo. He said Nana Addo in the name of seeking power should not be dishonest about the developments in the country, particularly those in Accra, were he is the mayor. Speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony for the 104th Millennium City School at Gbegbeyise, near Mamprobi in Accra yesterday, Dr Vanderpuiye said he had sleepless night over the claim by Nana Addo and had been wondering if Nana Addo lives in Accra. On Tuesday, this week, the twice-defeated NPP flagbearer for both 2008 and 2012 elections, went to Swalaba, a sprawling suburb of Accra, to launch his campaign to make a third a try at the flagbearer race again, and instead of concentrating on himself in a manner which will convince delegates, he decided to take a miscalculated swipe at the NDC government making all manner of claims and accusations. But, according to Dr Vanderpuiye, Nana Addo got it wrong in the sense that the Better Ghana Agenda cannot be sinking because the roads in Accra have been tarred, drains constructed, schools built to end shift system, places of convenience put up, bylaws being enforced, buildings without permit are being pulled down, unauthorized structures are also being demolished and waste contractors are being paid for work done, together with the provisions of information and communication technology facilities for school children at the basic level and the construction of an office complex for the Accra Metropolitan Assembly after over 100 years of its establishment. The Accra city boss, who was charged and spoke with passion, advised Nana Addo to be truthful when making analysis. For the mayor, he feels motivated to do more in the city and knows with the blessing and help from God more projects will be delivered. In demonstration of his motivation, he appealed to the chief of Gbegbeyise to make land available for the construction of a hospital to fill the list of achievements under the Better Ghana Agenda in Accra. Yesterdays sod cutting will see in the next three months another Millennium City school, which is three-storey 18-unit classroom block. The GH2.3 million projects which will have an internet caf, a secretariat for paper work, cafeteria and a library among others, will be the first Millennium city school to be disability friendly. Accra since 2008 has been awash with lots of projects, he said, adding that Nana Addo has been living in and passing through Accra all this while.
