Kombian Unable To Open Defence As A Result Of Ill-Health

Johnson Kombian, the businessman and farmer, who is being held for the death of two policemen in the Northern Region, has been taken ill. Kombian, who was asked by an Accra Fast Track High Court to open his defence today, was unable to do so as a result of his ill health. Mr George Asamaney, Kombians lawyer, told the court that they were ready to open their defence but unfortunately his client had been taken ill. The Defence Counsel, therefore, apologized to the court saying, We were ready this morning but my client is not feeling well. I am so disappointed. The court presided over by Mr Justice Mustapha Habib Logoh, therefore, granted them a short adjournment to enable Kombian to open his defence. The matter has, therefore, been adjourned to August 12. At the last sitting prosecution closed its case before an Accra Fast Track High Court, after calling six witnesses to make their case out. Kombian and his accomplices, who are on the run, are alleged to have ambushed three policemen, and killed two of them on 10 October, 2010. The victims were Constables Prince Agyare and Owusu Frimpong. Kombian has denied before a seven-member jury the charge of conspiracy, and two counts of killing the two police officers. He has been remanded by the court.
