Three Registration Officers on Tuesday urged the Electoral Commission and National Commission on Civic Education to intensify public education on the significance of the ongoing limited voter registration. They made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on day two of the limited voter registration exercise at Nungua in the Greater Accra Region, during a monitoring visit to a number of polling stations. Mr Kingsley Sakyi Armah, Registration Officer at the St Augustine Anglican Primary School, said more public education is needed to get people informed about the exercise. He said the turn was not impressive, but he expressed the hope that with more education many people would turn up to register. Ms Agnes Frempong, Assistant Registration Officer at the Ghana National Preparatory School said some people who had lost their voter identity cards tried to re- register, which she described as a criminal act, while others had inadequate information for the registration process. Mr Maxwell Afedoe, Registration Officer at the Nii Lawer Polling Station said public education is needed in the mass media to get people informed about the purpose of the limited voter registration exercise. Mr Humphrey Bortey, a first time registered voter, expressed joy over being registered and said he is hopeful to exercise his franchise in future national elections.
