The Institute of Democratic Governance, (IDEG) is proposing the establishment of a fund to support political parties and turn them into development organisations. According to the Executive Director of IDEG, Dr. Emmanuel Akwetey this fund should be resourced with the tax payers money and regulated by a multi-party commission. Dr. Akwetey was speaking at a forum in Kumasi to solicit the views of citizens and groups on recommendations by the Constitution Review Commission. The forum comes ahead of a referendum to accept or reject the recommendations. Dr. Akwetey speaking on multi-party governance reforms, analysis and reforms said threat of violence have, always characterized elections in the country making people lose confidence in the multi-party system. Dr. Akwetey says something needs to be done to avoid the 2016 elections becoming like those of 2008 and 2012.
