Suspend Salaries Of POTAG Members Nunoo-Mensah

The Head of the Human Security Department of the National Security Secretariat, Brig. Gen. Joseph Nunoo-Mensah (rtd) has asked government to suspend the payment of salaries to the members of the Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG). Polytechnic teachers across the country have been on a strike for over hundred days demanding the payment of their book and research allowances from government. The strike has led to the closure of all 10 polytechnics in the country with students been forced to abandon lessons and leave for their respective homes. In an interview on Radio Gold former National Security Advisor, Mr. Nunoo-Mensah questioned the rationale behind governments continuous payment of the salaries to POTAG members. According to him Why should anybody who is not working be paid, either government employee or your private employee. You cannot sit in a labor room somewhere and then mess the government about He asked the government consider what the late British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher did to prevent union groups from bullying her. Before you go on strike the law must make sure you consult all your members and go through a vote to get their mandate before going on strike, he stated.
