Police Quell Clash Between Feuding Parties

The timely intervention of the Nsueam Police quelled a confrontation between two feuding factions over the construction of a community centre at Adum Banso in the Mpohor District of the Western Region. The District Chief Executive of the area, Mr. Anthony Bassaw, told the GNA that an assembly member of the town secured support from Benso Oil Palm Plantation (BOPP) to continue the community centre which had stalled due to a chieftaincy dispute between two rival royal families in the town. However, when the assemblyman and some workers went to the site on August 5 to continue the facility they were attacked by a faction who were against the continuation of the building resulting in injuries. The DCE said the timely intervention of the Police saved the situation, which would have turned bloody. He said the project has been halted until all interested parties had come to an agreement on the way forward. Superintendent of Police Kojo Nkansah, Nsuaem District Police Commander, told the GNA that some cement blocks being used for the construction were damaged during the scuffle and that there was however no arrest. He said some police personnel are still stationed in the town maintaining law and order.
