Klagon Chief Laments Over Poor Road Network

THE CHIEF OF Klagon, a town along the Nungua-Ashaiman road, Nii Bortey Klan I, has lamented over the poor state of the main road, which according to him, is in a very bad state. He said the state of the road has become a source of worry not only to him, but also to all the residents in the area as well as other road users who ply the stretch from Sakumono to Ashaiman and vice versa. He has, therefore, appealed to the government to try and get the contractor to site and speed up work on the road as the stretch is also posing serious health hazard to residents of the town. The road from Nungua to Ashaiman is very bad. I am, therefore, appealing to the government to call on the contractor to speed up work on the road. I have already raised the issue with the Assembly. I have seen the contractor on the road but I have not asked them whether they are coming back or they have come to take their things away, he explained. The Klagon Mantse was addressing a section of the media after a friendly football match, dubbed Peace Match between the youth of Adjei-Kojo and Klagon, which has become a regular event on the calendar of the annual Homowo festival of the people of Nungua. The Peace Match is to foster good relationship between the people of Adjei-Kojo and Klagon. In the past there were some misunderstanding between the two people over the ownership of the Klagon Township, but currently it has been resolved. Klagon now falls under the jurisdiction of the Nungua Traditional Area. Addressing the media, the Klagon Mantse said: As a leader of a community, every year, you have to organize the people of the town to come together, and since we have the Homowo festival here with us and as we have been doing every year we come together to let the residents, who are not Gas but who live here in Klagon to know how we celebrate the Homowo festival in Nungua. What is special about this years event is that this is my 11th year on the throne and I think I have gone past the one decade milestone, hence the need to celebrate it in style, he noted. He noted that as a chief, one has to subdue and submit himself to his people and respect them, and the people will reciprocate that gesture, but the moment a chief goes away from this, people will rise up against him, and they may be thinking of getting a new chief, which is likely to degenerate into a chieftaincy dispute. He called on the youth in the area to stay away from all forms of social vices, including drinking, smoking, pilfering, armed robbery among others. My advice to the youth is: They youth should either go to school or learn a trade so that they will be secured in the future. And then those of them who are going to school must study very hard so that they will be able to achieve their aims. Hon. Henry Ubor, aka Bishop, Assemblyman for the Klagon electoral area reiterate the chiefs appeal to the government to get the contractor to site and start work on the bad road network in the area, saying the state of the road is posing a lot of health challenges to the people living along the stretch. According to him, because the road has been left in that bad state, there is a lot of dust emanating from it which is affecting the health of the residents, especially those who are staying near the road from Nungua barrier up to Ashaiman roundabout. The other day, I went to the Tema General Hospital to do some enquirers and they told me that the number of asthmatic patients from Klagon and its environs visiting the hospital for treatment has gone up due to the dust in their system. A lot of people from my community have come to complain about heart problems and it is affecting the residents badly. So I am pleading with the government to help our parents, mothers and fathers, and allow the China Railways Company Limited, contractor in charge of the road to come and tidy up the road for us, because it is killing us, he bemoaned. The Klagon Assemblyman also complained about the security of the area, which according to him has become an issue that everybody must get involved in it. He disclosed that because of the situation, opinion leaders in the area have decided to put up a police station in the town to protect their interest, and therefore appealed to all the residents, companies, fillings stations and in fact all well meaning persons in the town to come and support the project. I am pleading with everybody to come out boldly to support the construction of the police station which will help all of us. We are looking for money and building materials such as; bags of cement, blocks, iron rods, stones, sand and those artisans with skills such as masons, carpenters, steal benders etc should come, so that we can start the work, he emphasized. Regarding sanitation, the Assemblyman said they do not have any problem, thanks to the General Manager of Zoomlion who lives in the area, through whose instrumentality, the company somewhere last year gave out 800 free bins to residents in the town to ensure cleanliness in the area.
