I Am Proud Of My Father - Eric Amoateng's Son

Akwasi Amoateng, son of ex-convict and former Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza North, Eric Amoateng, says he is proud of his father despite his 10-year imprisonment for drug trafficking. Eric Amoateng was arrested and jailed for trafficking narcotics to the United States of America (USA) in 2005. After serving his 10-year jail term, he returned to Ghana on Thursday in the company of two officers from the US State Department. However, on arrival, he was welcomed with fresh allegations. Apart from facing possible confiscation of his properties, he is alleged to have used documents of a lady to acquire his current passport. Amoateng was taken to Court and granted bail after having gone through security interrogations by the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB), the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Immigration Service. Despite all these processes, Akwasi Amoateng said on Citi FM, he is excited to see his father back. Everybody is excited to see him back again and weve been waiting for this re-union for a long time and thank God it has come. When asked if he is ashamed to bear the name Amoateng because of his fathers imprisonment, he said: Whenever you mention that name, there are some people who are so excited and there are others who will have their own way. Some will argue on morality...but for me as a son, I am very proud of my Dad and I dont feel ashamed bearing the name Amoateng. He said when news broke that his father has been arrested in the US, it wasnt easy to bear but with time, we were able to overcome it. Confiscation of Assets Responding to the possibility of the authorities confiscating his fathers assets, Akwasi Boateng stated: legally, as a son I think the state may have no case but lets wait and see.probably, it is an attempt to frustrate the family but for me I think it is no case.
