Constituents Mad At Hanna Bissiw

DR. LOUISA Hanna Bissiw, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, in-charge of Livestock, is likely to lose her seat as the NDC Member of Parliament for Tano South in the Brong Ahafo Region for alleged incompetency. Her constituents complain of not doing enough to ensure that the constituency has its fair share of the national cake. Mr. Yaw Donkor, spokesperson for Derma and surrounding communities, dared any politician to step foot in the area to campaign during the electioneering campaign when the bad nature of roads in the area had not been addressed. Dwelling on the maxim: No road, no votes, Mr. Donkor explained that the roads from Asuoso in the Ashanti Region to Derma in the Brong Ahafo region over a distance of nine miles, along 14 farming communities with over 12,000 population in the constituency, were in deplorable condition, making life unbearable for the people, especially during the rainy season. According to the people, because of the bad nature of the roads, the inhabitants, mostly farmers, find it difficult to even send their farming products to the market centers, as vehicles are not willing to ply the roads in the rainy season. Mr. Donkor also lamented that armed robbers always take advantage of the nature of the roads to rob commuters of their belongings at gun point, since residents are mainly tomato, cassava, maize and yam farmers, while they commute to and from market centers. The spokesman said most of the tomato farmers run at a loss at the end of the year, as most of their harvest go rotten because drivers refuse to ply the roads to bring them to the market. He emphatically stated that considering the ordeal that they are going through, there was no need for them to vote for any politician, who only visits the area during electioneering campaigns to canvas for their votes. Nana Owusu Asante II, Dermahene, lamented on the bad nature of the roads and attributed it to rampant attacks by armed robbers. The chief pleaded with government and the security agencies to ensure full police patrol along the roads to ensure that crimes and all forms of criminal activities are reduced to enable citizerns go about their daily business activities without fear. Nana Kunamah Dufie, Queen-Mother of Derma also pleaded with authorities to provide the communities with modern market to enhance their trading activities.
