The joy of Eric Amoateng�s family about his final release from Ghana police cells has been cut short by news of the confiscation of his entire estate in the country. His mother, Madam Yaa Gyamea muttering through tears told Adom News Correspondent at Achaa FM�s, Koo Ofori that she feels miserable that government had seized everything her son had worked for. �I am so sad that government has confiscated all my son�s properties. Though I am happy that he has been released, I am crying because government has taken all he has worked hard for,� she said. Mr Eric Amoateng was released Monday evening from Police custody after he was detained shortly upon arrival from serving ten years in US prisons for illicit drug trafficking. While going through formalities at the Kotoka International Airport on arrival, it was discovered he was using a forged Ghanaian passport. The passport has number H2347080, which was said to belong to a lady; and the bio data page of the passport had also been substituted. Upon the discovery of the forged passport, he was rearrested and detained at the Nima Police Station in Accra. He got bail two days ago but was held in police custody till today when he was finally released to go home. But he came out of cells to meet news that government has confiscated his entire estate in Ghana. Legal Practitioner Dr. Maurice Ampaw said government was right in confiscating Eric Amoateng�s properties because the confiscation law is meant to deter people from using ill-earned wealth to acquire property in the country. He, however, noted that government would have to prove that the confiscated properties were indeed acquired with illicit drug money. A member of the Communication Team of Progressive People�s Party, Charles Owusu was however opposed to the confiscation of Amoateng�s properties saying �government has not been fair to the man.� Meanwhile, New Patriotic Party leading member, Hon Kofi Arhin Sakyi was at the home of the Nkoranza home of Amoateng to comfort his family about the new development.
