POTAG Strike Is Not Politically Motivated POTAG Prez

James Dugrah, the President of the Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG) has described a reportage claiming his call for an indefinite strike action by POTAG as championing the cause of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of which he is a member, as lazy journalism. Friday 8th August, 2014 edition of the Herald newspaper alleged that the strike action is part of a grand scheme by the POTAG president to make the Mahama-led administration unpopular. According to the paper, Mr. Dugrah doubles as the NPP Upper West Regional Communications Director. But in a sharp rebuttal on NEAT FM , Mr. Dugrah stated it is not true that I am the Communications Director of the NPP and that is lazy journalism on the part of the Newspaper. If the paper had done its work well, it would have known that there are others in POTAG who also have political affiliations . The Polytechnic Teachers have been on strike since May 15, 2014, demanding that government pay them their book and research allowances, which were in arrears. The strike action has led to an abrupt closure of all ten polytechnics across the country. But James Dugrah is of the view that the strike is not politically motivated even though he is a staunch member of the NPP, of which he has once held the position of the Communications Director in the Upper West Region. He also cautioned against the politicization of every issue so as to ensure efficiency in service which will move the nation forward.
