Six Suspected Armed Robbers In Police Grip

A joint police-military team has arrested six suspected armed robbers for their involvement in the robbery of GH�600,000 belonging to a gold dealer at Tarkwa. The suspects, according to the Western Regional Police Commander, DCOP Isaac Alex Quainoo, were also involved in the robbery of another GH�1.5 belonging to an Indian gold dealer, also at Tarkwa. DCOP Quainoo told journalists in Sekondi that his outfit has so far retrieved seven vehicles suspected to have been bought from the proceeds of their criminal activities. Another five suspected robbers, according to the Police Commander, who also took part in the robbery are on the run. Meanwhile, Police personnel drawn from the Drug Enforcement Unit of regional Police Command on Tuesday clamped down on narcotic drug peddlers and other suspected criminals at Enchi in the Aowin District. During the operation, 21 suspects, including seven women, were arrested. One of the women suspects, who was pregnant, delivered prematurely. The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Isaac Alex Quainnoo, told the press that for now, the police were screening the suspects after which those found to be culpable would be put before court.
