Fishermen Clash With Fisheries Law Enforcement Team

There was a bloody clash between Fisheries Law Enforcement Team of the Fisheries Commission and some fishermen at New Amanful in the Ahanta West District resulting in injuries. One policeman was injured and the windscreen of two vehicles used in the operation was damaged. The team, made up of personnel from the Ghana Police Service, the Navy and some officials of the Fisheries Commission went to the fishing town on Wednesday August 13 to seize unapproved fishing nets. But they came up against angry fishermen who threw stones at them resulting in the injury of the policeman and damage to the vehicles. About 70 unapproved nets were seized in the operation and some fishermen were arrested. The Western Regional Director of the Fisheries Commission, Mr. Yaw Sabah, confirmed the incident to the GNA.
