The word on the street is that the contest for the Presidential candidature of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is a two horse race between Nana Akufo-Addo and Alan Kyeremateng but former Minister in the Kufuor Administration, Asamoah Boateng is not discouraged. Indeed his level of confidence is infectious and has sent many analysts wondering what Mr. Boateng�s inspiration may be. Asamoah Boateng says that he will emerge as one of the five candidates to be presented at the party�s final primary for the election of its presidential candidate. According to him, once he gets into the best five, the rest would be very easy because ordinary delegates have assured him that he is the one they have been waiting for to deliver the NPP from opposition. Asamoah Boateng�s confidence has its roots in religious or if you like superstition. He has claimed that the battle for the leadership of the NPP is divine and that �the Lord is in control.� A regular visitor to the synagogue of Prophet T. B. Joshua, Asamoah Boateng insists that he is only a tool in the hands of God who has decided to use him for a special mission in Ghana. He describes himself as the David who would defeat the Goliath in President John Mahama. Sources close to the Asamoah Boateng campaign say that he has toured the country several times over promising his supporters surprises. He appears to be banking heavily on the apparent disunity which the candidature of Nana Akufo-Addo and Alan Kyeremateng is breeding in the NPP. He says �very soon everybody in the NPP is going to wake up to the fact that we need strong party unity to win the 2016 election. �We all know that neither Akufo-Addo nor Kyeremateng can bring about this unity.� Asamoah Boateng sounds so serious about the contest for the leadership of the NPP it is not easy to dismiss him off hand.
