The first President of Africa Development bank (ADB), Dr Donkor Fordjour, has bemoaned that the free fall of the nation�s currency poses a great danger to the survival of businesses. At a sod cutting ceremony for the construction of George and Angelina Owusu Medical Centre at Akyawkrom near Ejisu, he hinted that �it is only a �mad� person who is not afraid to lose his capital who will bring his investment to Ghana now due to the unstable Ghana currency.� Without mincing words, he stated in high tone that the probability of an investor losing his fortune by investing in Ghana now is very high since the Ghana Cedis is struggling to find its feet when compared to the major currencies such as the dollar. Estimated to cost a whopping $10 million, the ultra modern medical facility is being constructed by George and Angelina Owusu Foundation with support from Sanford World Clinics. US$2 million had been released to construct the first phase of the hospital. Dr Donkor Fordjour lamented that these days �when you visit the market, one US dollar is equivalent to GH� 3.80 pesewas and the following day that same amount of one US dollar would be exchanged for GH�4.� According to him, the unsteady nature of the foreign exchange rate in the country nowadays would scare any potential investor that wants to invest his capital in the country for fear that he/she (the investor) might lose his fortune by the blink of the eye. Dr Donkor Fordjour, therefore, showered praises on George Owusu and his wife, Angelina Owusu, for being patriotic and also having the courage to construct a 100-bed state-of- the-art medical facility at Akyawkrom to boost healthcare delivery at the area. He charged the populace, especially stakeholders in the health sector of the country to rally behind Mr George and Angelina Owusu to complete the medical facility as scheduled to help make proper healthcare become affordable and accessible to the people. Mr George Owusu, a Ghanaian who had domiciled in the US for 40 years, expressed gross worry over high rate of maternal deaths and child mortality in the country, stressing that his desire is to invest his money into laudable projects for the masses to benefit from. �The George and Angelina Owusu Foundation and Sanford World Clinics believe that further improvements depend upon the country�s ability to provide accessible, high quality primary care and the facilities to support the people of Ghana,� he said. Mr Owusu added, �It is our hope that the facility would grow to support the training of medical doctors and other health professionals at KNUST in Kumasi�, noting that accommodation would be provided for workers who would work at the hospital. The Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Joseph Yammin, who represented the Health Minister, entreated the public sector to assist the government to boost the healthcare delivery in the country.
