Ga East Assembly procures Pick-up for Street Naming exercise

Mr John Kwao Sackey, Ga East Municipal Chief Executive on Thursday presented a brand new Nissan Pick-up valued at ₵96,000 to the Fiscal Planning Department of the Municipal Assembly. The Pick-up is to facilitate the work of the department to meet the deadline of the Street Naming and Property Numbering (SNPN) exercise in the Municipality directed by the President John Dramani Mahama. President Mahama gave a directive to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA�s) to use 18 months to execute the exercise. Presenting the Pick-up, Mr Sackey said the SNPN policy is aimed at ensuring harmonization, consistency, efficiency and standardization of street addressing system in the various MMDAs. He said the policy would also increase revenues for the MMDA�s and improve urban management in the country. Mr Sackey noted that the street naming policy is defined as assigning street names and providing signage for street names which is the principles of governing. He said the assignment of street names cover the type of street and applicable suffixes and that the key aspect of the policy is the avoidance of name duplication and structuring of the naming system within a community. �The street naming policy spells out what are allowed in the exercise and they include, name lettering, colour schemes, name post and plate dimension, material type and placement requirement.� The MCE said the property numbering policy is the numbering of properties in different physical development patterns and that the policies intend to design an easy identification and proper planning of physical structures within MMDA�s in the country. �The policies again also intend to create a harmonious environment for business transaction to accelerate economic growth.� Receiving the vehicle, Mrs Doris Adusei, Head of the Fiscal Department, thanked the Assembly for providing them with a vehicle to facilitate their work. She assured the MCE that the vehicle will be used for its intended purpose and will be handled properly.
