Korle-Bu Payed Part Of Its Debt

The National Heath Insurance Authority(NHIA) has paid over one million Ghana cedis it owed the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for treating patients on the scheme. The senior staff association in a statement last week warned that the hospitals operations will ground to a halt if the problem is not resolved. It said the NHIA owed the hospital a substantial amount. The NHIA paid a part of its debt to the hospital last Friday following a directive from the Health Minister. The initial transfer that was paid was in the region of little over 1 million Ghana cedis but I hope in the subsequent days we will be given something substantial to deal with the trend, the Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mustapha Salifu said. Mr. Salifu believes the NHIA will also release the rest of the funds this week to help the hospital settle outstanding claims that emerged from its past operations. The NHIA released some monies to the hospital. But there was also a pledge for them to release another cheque to the hospital this week so I am sure that will help the hospital to clear all outstanding claims, he explained.
