DCE Escapes Death! Vehicle Vandalized, Seeks Refuge In The Bush

BUT FOR some Good Samaritans who intervened and rescued the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Banda Ahenkro Alexander Bonsu who had vamoosed from an angry mob that besieged his office to hide in a bush, he would have been lynched by lawless youth who are accusing him of embezzling funds allocated for the development of the area. The police are currently embarking on a manhunt to arrest the thugs who manhandled and almost killed the political and administrative head of Banda Ahenkro. Currently, there is uneasy calm and heavy security presence with relative peace in the area, after the protest at the district assembly last week Friday, August 15, 2014. A day earlier, a group had thronged the Banda Ahenkro assembly to demonstrate calling on the government to dismiss the DCE over failure to pursue developmental projects being spearheaded by the Member of Parliament for the area, Ahmed Ibrahim. According to eyewitnesses who spoke to the DAILY HERITAGE in an interview, after the protest, the DCE reported to his office the next day, but, the unidentified youth followed suit to attack his office thereby destroying the glass to the reception. "The coordinating director and the DCE managed to drive away from the angry youth but, tempers flared when he (DCE) decided to seek the support of the police to intervene in the fracas," they added. A source at the assembly intimated that the DCE was chased away by the red-eyed youth when he was heading to the police station forcing him to change course. "In an attempt to speed away from the mob, the tyres of the vehicle the DCE was driving burst along the way, making him drive into the bush where he temporarily hid from them but, the youth followed him there." It was there that the DCE faced the wrath of the angry mob. Checks by the paper reveal that the windscreen of the DCE's official vehicle has been smashed with his office ransacked with furniture there destroyed as well by the mob. The DCE was saved from the youth by some Good Samaritans who rescued him from the bushes and sent him to the police station for protection. ACP Patrick Adusei Sarpong of the Brong-Ahafo police said they have penciled three names as ring leaders of the protest and would be apprehending them in the coming days. The DCE's car has been sent to the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Command for further investigations. Attempts to reach the DCE proved futile as several calls to his line went unanswered. It is believed he is under protection to avoid further confrontation with the lawless youth of the area.
