Public Health Consultant Cautions Against Unnecessary Speculation On Ebola

Dr. Philip Amoo, Public Health Physician Specialist at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital said test conducted by the Noguchi Memorial Institute of Medical Research on all the 57 suspected cases of the Ebola Viral Disease had proven negative. As I speak, Ghana is Ebola free, he said and cautioned against unnecessary speculation particularly in the mainstream and social media about the existence of the Ebola disease in the country. Dr. Amoo said the speculations only went to dissuade the minds of the public from taking the right decisions and measures as well as creating unwarranted fear and panic. He said this at a seminar for Customs officers at Takoradi. Dr. Amoo said as Customs officers, they were expected to pick up early signs such as fevers, headache, bleeding and vomiting. Mr Yusif Quainoo, National Focal Person in charge of Employee well-being said the Ghana Revenue Authority has put in place a plan to handle such emergencies in order that revenue mobilization was not affected. He said the GRA had procured certified hand sanitizers, goggles, gloves and aprons and that hand dispensers are being placed at the various entry points and offices as control measures.
