Ebola Scare At Enchi Govt Hospital

Drama unfolded at the Enchi Government Hospital on Tuesday when health professionals mistook a post-delivery complication to be a symptom of the deadly Ebola virus. It all started after an Ivorian woman, who was rushed to the hospital late Tuesday soaked in blood died after two hours was assumed to be carrying the deadly Ebola virus and health officers had to run for their dear lives. However, investigations indicated that, the deceased, Aishetu Alima, 23, had delievered a baby last Saturday in Songa, a village on the Ivorian side of the Ghana/Cote dIvoire border but had developed a post-delivery injury resulting in excessive bleeding. When the woman was rushed to the Enchi Government Hospital, some workers mistook the excessive blood flow for an Ebola case; an information which later went viral in the community causing those who were heading to the hospital to turn back. Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the District Health Director, Mr Emmanuel Kofi Tamekloe, said the situation had been contained and the workers had returned to work. He said the blood sample of the woman had been taken to the Noguchi Memorial Institute in Accra for examination and that they were yet to receive the result.
