Christians Must Be Resolute In Faith � Vice President

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has charged Christians to be steadfast in their faith as well as help in solving the problems in their society. He also urged Christians to earnestly seek the face of God in every situation that they find themselves. Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur was speaking at the 8th Biennial and 46th Conference of the Methodist Church in Kumasi. The conference which was on the theme: �Witnessing to Christian-Teaching for effective Christian formation�, is being attended by Methodist delegates and faithful across the country. The four-day conference which ends on Sunday would see the election of a new Presiding Bishop to succeed Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante who bows out after completing his six year term in office. Vice President Amissah-Arthur also stated that as Christians we owe it as duty to uplift the sense of responsibility in the community as well as help fight pockets of corruption and impunity. He said active Christians can do this by strengthening democracy and protecting human rights. He prayed to the lord to anoint his own successor to take over from Prof Asante who he said had served the church and the country very well. Vice President Amissah-Arthur further stated that Rev. Prof Asante as Chairman of the National Peace Council was able to calm tensions that threatened the security of the nation. He urged the delegates who are attending the conference to come out with fruitful deliberations which would help the church to grow. Most Rev. Prof. Asante, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church in an address called on Christians to intensify evangelism and that it should go beyond human contact. He said the gospel must also be proclaimed in such a way that those who receive it are able to use it to make the desire impact on their lives. He expressed concern about the politics of exclusive alienation which he said does not create good atmosphere for citizens to participate in the governance system. Rev Prof Asante called for true participatory democracy which harnesses the contribution of others who may disagree with you. He also expressed concern about the appalling sanitation situation in the cities, the cholera outbreak and the inefficient energy system and called for concerted effort by government to tackle them.
