Assembly And MP To Rehabilitate Pontoon To Generate Revenue

The Kwahu Afram Plains North District Assembly and the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr Aboagye Didieye, have agreed to rehabilitate the pontoon which sunk at Akosombo some years ago. The pontoon, when rehabilitated, will ply between Agodeke near Donkorkrom and Kpando Torkor in the Volta Region. Speaking to the GNA Media Auditing and Tracking of Development Projects team in an interview, Mr Didieye said the Volta Lake Transport Company (VLTC) and the Tema Ship Yard Corporation said it would cost about GH2,400,000 and were waiting for the final assessment from the VLTC for part payment to be made for work to start. He said he had raised GH300,000 from his District Development Fund and other sources and the District Assembly is seeking approval from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to seek funding to rehabilitate the pontoon. The MP said he was prepared to seek a loan from a financial institution and use some of the revenue that would be generated from running the pontoon to pay back the loan. When the District Coordinating Director, Mr Samuel Badu Baiden was contacted, he said the Assembly at its recent meeting at Donkorkrom agreed to support the MP for the rehabilitation of the pontoon.
