Ekumfi NDC Boots Out Old Executives

National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ekumfi Constituency of the Central region has booted out its old constituency executives and elected new ones to steer the affairs of the party in the area for the 2016 General Elections. According to some delegates, who anonymously spoke to the paper, the old executives, including the chairman, vice chairman and secretary were shown the exit because of what they described as the divide-and-rule tactics they were practicing. That practice, they delegates contended, was destroying the NDC in the constituency. The election, which was supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC,) was contested by 49 candidates out of 15 were elected by the 334 delegates. Addressing the delegates before the elections, the immediate past Chairman of the constituency, Kwame Nkrumah, charged the people to mind their utterances so as not to inflame passions. District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Ibrahim Kweku Dawson, also admonished the people to let bygones be bygones and forge ahead in unity for victory in 2016. He indicated that even though the country was facing serious economic challenges, Ekumfi has had its fair share of development including a new Senior High School and construction of major roads in the area. For his part, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Abeiku Crentsil, promised to make the first-term of his tenure the best in the history of Ekumfi constituency, adding that a loan facility will soon be approved by Parliament to finally make the perennial water problem in the constituency a thing of the past. The elections saw Ekow Essilfie Buckman polling 127 votes to beat the incumbent, Kwame Nkrumah, who polled 107 votes, as chairman. Chief Hamilton Nixon Biney also polled 183 to beat his opponents Joseph Antobam and Ignatius Kobina Yankah who polled 112 and 27 votes respectively for the vice chairmanship position. The rest were Edward Acquah who polled 181 to beat the incumbent Alex Fiifi Essuman who had 62 for the secretary position; Emmanuel Akwandoh polled 180 votes to win the deputy secretary slot while Kweku Ayuba polled 213 to win the treasurer position. The deputy treasurer position was won by Charles Baka with 237 votes; Michael Aidoo who polled 143 votes was elected organiser, whilst deputy organiser was won by Edward Nelson with 216 votes. The youth organiser position went to Nurideen Aidoo with 39 votes while Sarah Anderson and Margaret Donkor won the women�s organiser and deputy women organiser positions with 48 and 50 votes respectively. The propaganda secretary and deputy propaganda secretary positions went to Seth Yorke and Raymond Moore respectively while deputy youth organiser and deputy treasurer positions went to Tony Baafi and Gabriel Baka respectively. Addressing the media after his election, the Vice Chairman, Chief Biney, promised to liaise with his newly elected executives and unite all factions in the party to ensure victory for the NDC in the constituency in 2016.
