Man Kills Mother Over �Chop Money�

A FIFTY-YEAR-OLD woman, Adwoa Dunsin has been killed in cold blood at Asamankese in the Eastern region by her twenty-seven-year-old son, Kwadwo Atta for refusing to give him money to buy food. The body of the deceased has been sent to the Asamankese Government Hospital, with the suspect in police custody awaiting prosecution. The Asamankese District Police Commander, DSP Anane Appiah, told the DAILY HERITAGE that, the police received a distress call on Friday at around 8am about the incident and rushed to the scene to arrest the suspect who attempted to escape when the police got to the scene. Narrating what triggered the sad incident, DSP Appiah explained that, the suspect approached the mother to give him money to buy food to eat since he was hungry; however, he was not given since the mother did not have any money on her. According to the police commander, the suspect became furious and when the father left for farm, took a fire wood and hit the back of the mother�s neck making her fall instantly onto the ground unconsciousness. He said while lying on the ground, the son hit the head several times with the same stick. He said the suspect attempted to run away after committing the offence, but was arrested by the police with the help of the town folks. DSP Appiah said the body of the deceased which was in a pool of blood was taken to Asamankese Hospital morgue. He said, during interrogation, the suspect admitted the offence and alleged that the late mother was bewitching him which has led to hardship on his life, hence, the murder. However, the police believe the suspect committed the offence under the influence of Indian hemp. DSP Appiah said the suspect has been processed and charged for murder and will be put before court today.
