"If Nana Addo Has Magic Wand To Unite NPP, Why Doesnt He Do It Now?"

Pollster and Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch, Ben Ephson has questioned why Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo wants to be made the NPP flagbearer before he can unite the rank and file of the party. Even though Uncle Ben is urging Nana Addo to do so now, he believes it would be tough because of the deepened cracks in the party. However, Ben Ephson has advised that, if he can unite the party, he should rather do it now so that he can even get more votes. He was responding to the former flagbearer of the NPP's comments yesterday when he was addressing delegates as part of his tour of the Volta Region and disclosed that once hes given the nod to become the leader of the party, hell ensure that he mends the cracks in the party. Speaking to Moro Awudu on The XYZ Breakfast Show, Mr. Ephson however said, If Nana Addo has the magic wand of uniting the NPP, why doesnt he do it now? Why is he waiting to be elected the flagbearer before? If he can unite the party, he should rather do it now so he can even get more votes. Its like if you dont give me the flagbearer, I wont give you the formula for uniting the party. That must start from now, thats if he can do it, but it is going to be very difficult. The pollster also said Nana Addo winning the flagbearership race is very possible, but whether youll win the national elections, these are the things that will come in. Thus whether hell be able to unite the party for him to win, thats just going to be the cracks of the matter. He pointed out more importantly that in-fighting results in apathy and that further results in election loss. Moro this is not a new phenomenon in the party; people in the party know, those who are seasoned politicians. In-fighting breaks in, apathy comes in, [and] you lose the elections. NDC suffered in-fighting in 2000. There was apathy and they lost the elections. 2008, NPP had a dose of apathy and they lost the elections. Uncle Ben also said, Apathy does not affect floating voters; apathy is when your own party supporters refuse to come out and vote. The most dangerous of all political ailment is apathy. If you look at what happened at the headquarters, cutlasses were pulled, threats were made, across the country, people are cursing others for not supporting my candidate or your candidate. If you curse me for not supporting your candidate [and] your candidate wins, do you think I will get up and go and vote for your candidate? Come August 31, the party will be holding its Super Delegates Conference to endorse its flagbearer aspirants and follow it up with another congress in October to choose a flagbearer by a voting process after the number of aspirants has been pruned to five (5).
