Steering Committee Has Endorsed Our Arrangement For Special Election�. - K. Agyapong

General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, has expressed satisfaction at the outcome of the meeting with the Steering Committee following the endorsement of measures put in place to organize the special Electoral College to choose five out of seven Presidential Hopefuls to contest for the party�s Flagbearership. According to the General Secretary, things have now normalized in NPP. �We have met with the Electoral Commission and arrangement has been made regarding our Special Election; it is this arrangement we had with EC that we discussed yesterday with the Steering Committee and they have endorsed the arrangement. EC has finished and distributed the Statement of Poll to the various Regional Capitals�..apart from the Chairman and the General Secretary we have assigned the Steering Committee members to the various regions to vote over there and also to monitor proceedings from the regional capitals. We will plead with those whose names are not on the list we have given out to stay away from the venue,� he admonished. Giving details of the meeting with the Steering Committee, Kwabena Agyapong hinted to Kwame Nkrumah Tikese, host of Okay Fm�s �Ade Akye Abia� Morning Show that there is flexibility for some eligible members to vote in certain areas they find themselves without strict adherence to the electoral process pertaining to the party�s Constitution. Breaking down the Regional Polls, the General Secretary recounted that Ashanti Region has 133 members who are eligible to vote in the Special Election and Eastern Region has 94 members. The Central Region has 59, Brong Ahafo has 74, Greater Accra Region has 76, Northern Region has 58, Upper East has 39, Upper West has 32, Volta Region has 56 and Western Region has 67 members; who are qualified to vote in the Special Election scheduled to take place on August 31, 2014 at the various Regional Capitals in the country. ��the various Regional Chairmen of the party have been asked to liaise with the Police to beef up security at the polling centers,� he added.
