AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Community Trust Fund Commissions Projects

The Iduapriem Community Trust Fund has commissioned projects within the host communities of AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine. The communities were New Techiman which had an Early Childhood Development Centre, Nkwantakrom and Domeabra which also had Aqua-privy Toilet Facility each. Professor Newton Amegbey, Chairman of the Trust Fund Board threw light on the importance the fund attached to education and sanitation in the area saying, � education simply makes you know what is happening around you better and sanitation is an important way of promoting good health and preventing diseases and the significant thing is that the people of the area chose these projects because they understood their needs.� According to him, development agencies now see the need to involve natives in the decision making process to avoid creating projects that could be abandoned by the beneficiaries after they have been commissioned. He assured the beneficiary communities that the Trust Fund is committed to supporting the host communities improve upon their well-being and the facilities being commissioned are a few of the lot to come. He however emphasized on the need for community members and their leaders to work towards the sustainability of the facilities provided if the expected gains are to be realized. Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo-Senior Manager of the Sustainability Department of the Iduapriem Mine acting on behalf of the Managing director of AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine in his address said AngloGold Ashanti is committed to leaving sustainable life improvement legacies in its host communities. He intimated that the Trust Fund will continue to partner with government agencies and the traditional authorities to empower indigenes in its operational areas. Opanyin Kojo Mensah an elder of the New Techiman community thanked the management and staff of AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine and the Iduapriem Community Trust Fund and asked for more assistance to improve life in New Techiman community.
