The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old landguard, suspected to have being terrorising residents in the Miotso community in Prampram. The suspect, Johnny Lartey Botchwey, is also alleged to have been behind some robbery cases in the area. Botchwey's arrest followed a recent altercation with one Mr Prince Allotey, whom he accosted at Miotso, after he had previously threatened to end his (Allotey�s) life. He was said to have accosted the complainant and a group of people near the Ghanaman Soccer Academy when the group was carting sand to the complainant's site at about 8 a.m. last Friday. Amidst the firing of gunshots, Botchwey allegedly threatened to kill Prince Allotey, and thereafter used the butt of a rifle to assault another person named Moses Allotey. Botchwey was also alleged to have confronted a police patrol team in June 2013, and shot at them, demanding the release of a gang of landguards who were arrested at Miotso. Police inaction The complainant, Mr Allotey, who claimed to have received persistent threats to his life from the suspect, accused the Prampram Police of failing to make the suspect face the law. According to him, the suspect, who encroached on portions of his land and went ahead to construct a concrete fence wall on the land, had, over a period of five years, threatened him with death. "Although the District Police Command has over the period arrested him and taken his statements, he had been left off the hook, thus emboldening him to further terrorise people in the community," Mr Allotey claimed. But the District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr Paul Mensah Bampoe, discounted Allotey�s claims.
