All Is Set For NPP Special Electoral College

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, General Secretary (GS) of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, has announced venues for the Special Delegates Congress which will be held across the country. On Sunday 31st August, 2014, the NPP will be voting in a special election to prune down seven persons contesting for the flagbearership position of the NPP. Speaking in an interview on Peace FM morning show �Kokrokoo�, Kwabena Agyepong indicated that there will be eleven polling stations and they will be run by the presiding officers. �We don�t want any party official to give instructions to the electoral officials. We have left everything in their (EC) hands" he indicated. Category of voters Regional representatives to the National council, Regional Executives Committee, Founding Fathers of the party, Members of Parliament (MP), Past President (J.A Kufuor), National Council of elders, All the past national officers, Past presidential/vice presidential candidates, 16 foreign branches (3 delegates from each) and Three main organs: women�s wing, youth wing and Nasara (3 delegates each) The total number of eligible voters will therefore be 786. All the above names according Kwabena Agyepong have been compiled and made available to all the seven aspirants. Apart from the voting centres, national headquarters of the party has also been designated as special centres where national officers, past national officers, special organs and external branches will vote. Voting Centres For the Ashanti Region, the Community Centre, close to the swimming pool (KNUST) Kumasi will be used as voting centre. The rest are: Brong Ahafo Region � Catholic Pastoral Centre, Sunyani; Northern Region � Tamale Stadium, Tamale; Upper East Region � VAG Hall, Bolgatanga; Upper West � GNAT Hall, Wa Greater Accra � Osu Salem Park, Accra Central Region � Pampanasie Hotel, Cape Coast Western � GNAT Hall, Eastern � Oyinka Hotel, Koforidua Volta � Skyplus Hotel, Ho The election is expected to be conducted by officials of the Electoral Commission (EC). Barring any unforeseen circumstances, polls are expected to be opened at 8:00am on Sunday and close at 3:00 pm the same day, after which certified results would be transmitted to the collation centre at the strong room of the Electoral Commission from where the declaration of results would be announced said GS. �I will once again plead with our members not to come to the centres if they are not delegates to avoid any misunderstanding. We remain committed to ensuring that there is a free, transparent and fair election� he added. Below is a statement from the General Secretary OPERATIONAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR SPECIAL ELECTORAL COLLEGE ON SUNDAY 31ST AUGUST 2014 a) The election will take place on Sunday 31st August 2014. Voting starts at 8:00am in the morning and ends at 3:00pm. Counting of ballots continues immediately after voting and results declared. b) The Electoral Commission will conduct this election in all the eleven designated voting centres across the country. As such, Presiding officers will be in total control of the polling station and will be assisted by a National Executive to identify voters. c) All eligible voters should be identified by the NPP Delegates card and must have their names in the Voters Album. d) All proxies should be eligible voters with their name on the proxy list and should also produce a copy of the proxy form. e) No polling official should take instructions from any party member or executive. f) Each aspirant is entitled to nominate two (2) agents for each of the designated voting centres, but only one (1) would be engaged at a given time. g) Aspirants are further entitled to nominate One (1) additional agent to represent them at the results collation centre at the Electoral Commission Headquarters. h) Results declaration forms should be endorsed by candidates� agents present and faxed to EC Head Office (OPS Room) by Regional Directors. i) No delegate/aspirant or their supporters are allowed to campaign within the voting centre. j) Each Region�s election shall be supervised by a National Representative k) There shall be no use of cameras at the Polling Booth. l) Delegates shall proceed to the Electoral Officers, go through the process of identification and issued with Ballot Papers to cast their Votes. m) Voting Centres remain as follows: � ASHANTI � COMMUNITY CENTRE, KNUST � GREATER ACCRA � OSU SALEM PARK, ACCRA � CENTRAL � PAMPANASIE HOTEL, CAPE COAST � WESTERN � GNAT HALL , TAKORADI � BRONG AHAFO � PASTORAL CENTER, SUNYANI � NORTHERN � SPORT STADIUM (INNER CAR PARK) � EASTERN � OYINKA HOTEL, KOFORIDUA � VOLTA � SKYPLUS HOTEL, HO � UPPER WEST � GNAT HALL, WA � UPPER EAST � VAG HALL, BOLGA � NATIONAL � NPP HEAD QUARTERS, ASYLUM DOWN n) Security The headquarters has concluded discussions with the Ghana Police Service on providing security assistance for the election at all voting centres on that day.
