Professor Haruna Yakubu, Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS) has advised mature university students pursuing graduate courses to behave maturely and live decent lives for the young students to emulate. He said: �I entreat all admitted fresh students to behave as mature students and respect the norms and values of the university as well as people you interact with in your day-to-day activities for the young once to emulate�. Prof. Yakubu gave the advice on Friday during the matriculation ceremony for fresh students admitted to pursue graduate courses at the UDS Graduate School at Dungu near Tamale. A total of 282 applicants were offered admission by the Graduate School to undertake various sandwich programmes and 237 accepted the offer. Prof. Yakubu said UDS would continue to mould and transform students holistically to be responsible citizens in society and stressed the importance of taking their academic work seriously. �Fresh men and women, your primary purpose of being here is academic pursuit. I urge you to be circumspect in the social activities you involve yourselves in which may be detrimental to your future. I will entreat you to set good examples for the young ones to emulate,� he said. He said UDS had, so far, mounted 24 sandwich programmes at the Tamale, Nyankpala, Navrongo and Wa campuses which were providing various training to workers who could not join the mainstream courses. Prof. Yakubu stressed the importance of the various UDS faculties to strive to establish collaborations with sister universities in Ghana and abroad as a way of marketing its programmes to enhance academic work. He said the UDS Faculty of Education, which was the youngest faculty, had established study collaboration with the University of Fachhochschule in Dusseldorf, Germany, through its Master of Arts in Development Education programme.
