NPP Members Want Nana To Go Unopposed

Executives of the external branches of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have appealed to Mr Alan K. Kyerematen and Mr Adei Nimo to step down from the partys October flagbearership race towards forging unity in the party. As much as we respect and recognise the constitutional rights of the other candidates to go for the October 18 elections, we humbly appeal to them to consider the larger picture, in the supreme interest of the Party and throw their weight behind the winner of the super delegates conference. Addressing the press on Monday, Dr Charles Dwamena, Chairman, NPP China branch, who spoke on behalf of the other executives, expressed their appreciation to Mr Joe Ghartey and Mr Osei Ameyaw, the other contestants, who qualified for the Super Delegates Conference, for voluntarily withdrawing from the 18th October race. Executive members from China, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Nigeria, Japan, and the USA were at the press conference. The executives also urged Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the winner of the Super Delegates Conference, on Sunday, to influence his supporters to refrain from acts that might directly or indirectly antagonise the other candidates and their supporters. In addition, we encourage Nana Addo to open his doors to all other candidates by extending an olive branch so that we can form a united front to prosecute the 2016 general election,, they said. They also congratulated Mr Kwabena Agyepong, NPP General Secretary, and his team, for organizing a successful Super Delegates Conference. They explained that per Article 8 of the NPP Constitution, the external branches of the party were conferred special rights and responsibilities within the Partys hierarchy. Each branch presented three super delegates for this election and as part of our activities, we contribute by providing logistic support as well as assistance in policy formulation, he said. They said most of the branches held internal elections for their members to decide their preferred candidate. For example China voted 85.4%, Germany voted 99.6, and Belgium voted 100% for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, they said. The results of the elections held in those countries indicated that the super delegates from the External Branches voted in accordance with the wishes of their members who sent them and not in their individual capacities, they said.
