Ade Coker: Alan Should Form His Own Party If...

Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Joseph Ade Coker says that it will be difficult for anybody in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to push through the thick wall of Nana Akufo Addo to win the flagbearership position in the party. To him, there is no level playing field in the NPP and so it will be tough for anybody to break through. The Greater Accra Regional Chairman was commenting on the recently held Super Delegates Congress held to downsize seven candidates contesting for the flagbearership position to five. Nana Addo was able to get more than 80% of the total votes, leaving the rest of the candidates including his close contender Alan Kyerematen to fight for the rest of the 20%. In reaction to this, Chairman Ade Coker predicted that the same or similar results will be recorded during the National Delegates Conference and so it will be better for Alan Kyerematen to pull out of the race. He is of the view that since Alan was not able to get 10% of the total votes, if he goes into October 18th, it will destroy his political career. It is very difficult for anybody who will challenge Nana Addo to go through successfully because of the structures. The rest of the candidates were just passing through; they were testing the waters but Alan is the close giant and contender of Akufo Addo. For him to get 7% or so; there is no need for him to contest the election in October 18. He should not go at all otherwise his next point will destroy his political career. He alluded that the kingpins supporting Akufo Addo in NPP are so strong that is it is difficult for Alan to break through to win the election; adding if he (Alan) wants to test his popularity, he should form his own party. From the way things are going, he is likely to get 1% and that will be his downfall. He didnt even get 10% and that is serious. Nana Addo has so many supporters in the various regions that he does not even need to campaign anymore but Alan is nowhere close he stated during a panel discussion on Peace FM Kokrokoo.
