K-Poly Develops Infrastructure Under Partnership Deal

The Kumasi Polytechnic has embarked on a massive infrastructure development as part of its expansion programme and to also enhance revenue generation capacity. These include a new campus at Kuntanase, entrepreneurship village at Pease, both in the Bosomtwe District, construction of a three star hotel at Asokwa and a residential accommodation at Akwatialine in Kumasi, for its junior staff. Professor Nicholas Necodemus Nana Nsowah-Nuamah, the Rector, told newsmen after a tour of the project sites that, these were being done through public private partnership (PPP) arrangement. He said they have secured partners to develop the new campus and construct the three-star hotel. The entrepreneurship village is a joint project with Chinese Company, Songtech Limited, and would involve the installation of a plant to assemble mobile phones, laptops and desktops computers, tablets and flat screen television sets among others. He said it would provide practical training to graduates of the polytechnic, adding that, the project could help bring in substantial revenue. The decision to put up the hotel is to help train students from its catering, hospitality and institutional management department, to adequately equip them to make a difference in the hospitality industry. Prof Nsowah-Nuamah said they had submitted proposals to the Enterprise Development and Agricultural Investment Fund (EDAIF) for support to complete the projects.
