The Asene-Manso- Akroso (AMA) Constituency Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Eastern Region, Mr Frank Kwasi Nkansah, has resigned from the party with immediate effect.
Mr Nkansah, an Akyem Oda-based businessman, a government appointee of the Birim Central Municipal Assembly and Presiding Elder of the Church of Pentecost, Akyem Asene Central Assembly, has also withdrawn from contesting as the AMA constituency chairman of the NDC in the forthcoming election.
He announced his resignation at a news conference at Oda last Sunday.
Mr Nkansah attributed his resignation to the frustration caused by some NDC executive members of the AMA, the Oda Constituency and the Eastern Regional Secretariat, who had been accusing him of being a sympathiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) despite being an active NDC member since 1996.
Mr Nkansah, a philanthropist, noted with concern that some members of his own party were damaging his hard-earned reputation despite the numerous sacrifices and financial assistance he had offered to the party for the past 18 years.
According to him, he had decided to get out of partisan politics and concentrate on his private business and church duties.
Mr Nkansah, however, wished the NDC well in all its endeavours.
With the withdrawal of Mr Nkansah from the race, his challenger, Mr Emmanuel Asante Asamoah, will retain his chairman position unopposed.
