Prez Mahama, Kweku Baako On Aljazeera

Ghanaians and the world in general will this week have the rare opportunity of watching on Aljazeera, both President John Dramani Mahama and Veteran Journalist, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr. express their opinions on issues spanning economic opportunities to media freedom and expansion. In a special two-part People & Power report, veteran African journalist, Sorious Samura, arrived in Ghana to interact with both personalities to delve into the changing dynamics of the African continent from colonial era to present day independent status. Its not been easy, President Mahama could be heard lamenting in the interview. In many cases, post-independence there was a lot of euphoria about our people were happy to become independent nations. Unfortunately, we did not realize the new colonial trap into which we were stepping. Our economies had been structured in such a way that you had to dance to the tune of the colonial masters, the President added. Touching on job creation, President Mahama stated, our population is growing and so we need to create more jobs and thats why Iam advocating that for the things that we export, we must expand the processing in-house Mr. Baako who is the Editor-in-Chief of The New Crusading GUIDE, also dwelt on the media landscape in Ghana stating that, there is a historical perspective to this tradition. Post independence especially the military intrusion in our politics, the soldiers and the kind of oppression and suppression they brought to bear on the good people of this country, led to a counter action and people decided to rebel, to react. There was a collective will of Ghanaians to fight to restore constitutional normalcy
