Two Drown In River Offin

Reliable information reaching The Finder indicates that two persons have drowned in River Offin at Nerebehi in the Atwima Nwabiagya District. The deceased are Kwame Yeboah and a palm wine tapper whose name was given only as Essien. Explaining the cause of their untimely death, assemblyman of the area, Mr Samuel Nyamekye said Essien taps palm wine on the other side of the Offin River. He Essiens children after school hours would come and wait on the riverside for their father to take them home. He added that on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 around 3.30pm, Essiens boat capsized while crossing the river to take his children. The children, who witnessed their fathers boat capsize, run home shouting for help to rescue their father, but unfortunately when people rushed to the scene the deceased was nowhere to be found. Mr Nyamekye explained that he reported the case to the Abuakwa Police Station on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 and was given a delegation of police personnel to accompany the town folks to continue the search. "While searching the river, Kwame Yeboah, who was part of the search team, also drowned in the presence of the police," he disclosed. As a result, the Police Commander had to order the search team to suspend the search until further notice. The information further revealed that two top fetish priests in the community have said that there is something behind the deaths. As at the time of filing this report, the chief and elders of the town had made some sacrifices to the river. The bodies of Essien and Kwame Yeboah were found on September 4 and 5, 2014 respectively. But due to their deluded nature, a permit has been granted by the Nkawie Circuit Court, following which they have been buried at the bank of the river.
