Date For NPP National Congress Must Be Reviewed - Addai Nimoh

Francis Addai Nimoh, one of the contestants in the flagbearer race of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed difficulty in understanding the reasons behind the call for all aspirants to bow out and endorse Nana Akufo-Addo to lead the party in the 2016 general elections. According to him, a provision of the party constitution dictates exactly what must be done in the lead up to the election of a presidential candidate and that must be adhered to. In the view of Hon. Addai Nimoh, the party must take full advantage of the situation by following the party constitution to the later, to reassure Ghanaians that the NPP will work with the Constitution of Ghana when voted into power. We must go through the whole process because competition always makes you stronger and better, he said. In an interview with NEAT 100.9 FM , Hon. Francis Addai Nimoh also appealed to the National Council of the NPP to review the date for the National Delegates Congress slated for the 18th of October, this year. In his opinion, a review of the Congress date would afford contestants ample time to solicit votes of delegates and also take pressure off the National Executives of the party, who are working frantically to put logistics in place for the Congress. To the 49-year-old civil engineer, one of the major reasons for which the October 18th date was arrived at, was the District Assembly Elections but since that has been rescheduled for early next year, the NPP must also extend the Congress date. In the just ended Super Delegates Congress, Hon. Addai Nimoh polled 22 votes, which is 22. 98 percent of the total votes cast while, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo polled 598 votes out of 740 ballots cast, representing 80.78 per cent, with his closest contender, Alan Kyeremateng, obtaining 59 votes, representing 7.98 per cent. Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joe Ghartey, obtained 22 votes each and Osei Ameyaw had 16 votes, which is 2.17 per cent, to pick up the last ticket to the October 18 national delegates conference.
