Prez Mahama Attends Funeral Services For Dr Adadevoh, Akotia

President John Dramani Mahama yesterday joined mourners at a requiem mass at the Christ the King Parish at Kanda in Accra for Dr Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, the medical officer who died of Ebola in the line of duty in Nigeria. Dr Adadevoh, a consultant endocrinologist and physician whose paternal grandfather was a Ghanaian from Anyako in the Volta Region, died on August 19, 2014, after contracting the deadly disease while treating a Liberian Ebola patient in Lagos. Her father was Prof. Babatunde Kwaku Adadevoh ( deceased) of the Adadevoh royal family of Anyako and the Crowther/Mavaulay family of Lagos, Nigeria. Her mother was a Nigerian. Members of the Adadevoh family were at the service in their numbers. Also in attendance were medical colleagues and friends of the deceased. The Saint Anthony's choral group from Abelenkpe in Accra sang at the service. A number of tributes, including those from the government and people of Nigeria, the Ghanaian Alumni of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, the Adadevoh-Beckley-Degadzor family of Ghana and the medical fraternity of Ghana, were read. Sermon In his homily, the Parish Priest of the Christ the King Parish, Very Rev. Father Andrew Campbell, said those who died in Christ such as Dr Adadevoh, were worth celebrating. He said the fact that the medical doctor sacrificed her life for the suffering was enough for her to be remembered by even generations unborn. President Mahama had earlier in the day joined hundreds of other mourners at a farewell service for the late Mathias Mawutor Kwesi Akotia, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Brand Ghana Office. Mr Akotia died on August 16, this year, at the age of 53. The service was held at The Church, in Accra, a non-denominational Christian Assembly where Mr Akotia worshipped. On arrival at the funeral grounds about 9.30 a. m, President Mahama filed past the body to pay his last respects before taking his seat. Tributes Tributes were paid by the widow, Mrs Charity Akotia, the children, the Brand Ghana Council and the Brand Ghana Office. They all talked about having lost a dear one. Delivering the sermon, an Elder of the church, Brother Andy Ande-Acquah, said life was too short and most often many people forgot to "put their house in order" before death struck. What was important for man was to fulfil the mandate of life by giving his everything to God, he stressed. He said Mr Akotia led a life worthy of emulation. After the service, the remains were conveyed to his hometown for a private burial. Born at Worawora in the Volta Region, Mr Akotia studied at the Business School of the University of Ghana. He was appointed the first CEO of Brand Ghana office in 2009.
