Alan K Never Pledged Support For Nana Addo..... Says Ohene Ntow

Nana Ohene Ntow, former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and spokesperson of Alan Kyerematen has debunked the headline story of the New Statesman that says Alan pledges support for Akufo-Addo- as Ohene Ntow seeks NDC support for his candidature. According to him, the headline is misleading as Alan Kyerematen never endorsed Nana Addo as the story seems to portray in its Monday Edition. Speaking to the issue on Okay Fms Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Nana Ohene Ntow stressed that it has always been the norm of Alan Kyerematen and his team to offer their unflinching support to Nana Akufo-Addo on both occasions when he failed in his two attempts in the Presidential contest. Nana Ohene Ntow emphasized that his invitation to the other political parties was taken out of context as he rather called on the delegates to strategically vote for Alan Kyerematen who appeals to floating voters, including supporters of the ruling NDC. He maintained that his message was meant to remind the delegates to consider Alan Kyerematens candidature as evidence has shown in 2008 and 2012 elections that Nana Akufo-Addo does not appeal to votes outside the party; adding it should be welcoming news to NPP that people outside the party are willing to vote for NPP should Alan Kyerematen become the Flagbearer. The headline is totally wrong and misleading because Alan Kyerematen never pledged support for Nana Akufo-Addo during the campaign launch; he rather denied the perception that he [Alan] and Nana Addo are enemies and as it has always been the norm, he will support Nana Addo if he is elected the Flagbearer. He never said he was stepping down for Nana Akufo-Addo to stand; if that is the impression the New Statesman is creating, then it is wrong and misleading..it must be noted that it is only NPP that can choose a flagbearer for the party and no NDC member can take part in that process. What I said was that if you choose a candidate for elections and that candidate comes back with nothing, then you have achieved nothing. But if you choose a candidate and he comes back as President then you have done something..before your candidate can win elections, it takes more than party members alone to win; NDC, CPP, PPP and PNC members can support your candidate to win. If NDC supporters decide to back NPP, it will be good for the party..if you listen to people, it is clear that Alan should be the obvious choice for NPP if we want to win power..in politics we have to be strategic in choosing a flagbearer and Nana Akufo Addo knows we should choose a candidate that can solicit for outside votes, otherwise we can never win elections; he [Nana Addo] said it on Thursday October 8, page 11 of the Daily Graphic publication in 1998, he opined.
