NDC Condemns Attacks On Kwabena Adjei's Wife

The Akropong constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned what they describe as orchestrated smear campaign against Mrs. Comfort Adjei, wife of Dr. Kwabena Adjei, the national chairman of the NDC. At a press conference held at the constituency office of the party at Akropong by the newly elected constituency executives, the constituency secretary, Adomanko Philip who addressed the media stated that some faceless individuals have masterminded and fabricated stories about Mrs. Adjei which were published in the media recently. In one such publication it was alleged that Mrs Adjei was behind the confusion and violence that characterized the Akropong constituency election of the party. However, according to the constituency executives, the publication is untrue since there was no confusion during the constituency election held last week. They admitted little misunderstanding over the declaration of the chairmanship position results due to request by the polling agent of Kofi Afull, an aspirant that the electoral officer must provide him with the delegates register for cross-checking. We the constituency executives want to state clearly that Mrs. Comfort Adjei has no hand in any form of misunderstanding so no one should accuse her of any happenings." The Akropong constituency executives further debunked claims that none of the executives were sworn -in. According to them "the Newly executives were sworn and the acting regional chairman Alhaji Sumaila Mahama asked the elected secretary to furnish him with the names of the few executives who were not present so that they would be sworn-in later." The Akropong constituency womens organizer, Afreh Elizabeth alleged that the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Area, Opare Addo and his father Oheneba Addo who have declared their support for Kofi Portuphy who is also aspiring to be national chairman of the NDC are responsible for the smear campaign against Mrs. Adjei. She said the DCE refused to sponsor the constituency election when proposal was sent to him, adding that it took the intervention of Mrs. Adjei to single-handedly sponsor the election, therefore, it was ungrateful on the part of detractors of the Adjei Family to accuse Mrs. Adjei of masterminding confusion in the constituency election. Mrs. Adjei prior to the 2012 election lost the primary in the Akropong constituency by a handful of votes to Mrs. Margret Ansah.
