The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, is leading an NDC delegation to participate in the annual Labour Party Conference in the United Kingdom to deliberate on issues including policy making and inequality to ensure effective governance. The delegation will join others coming from Australia, Latin America, Asia, Europe and Africa. In his absence, the Deputy General Secretary, Mr George Lawson, will act as the General Secretary of the party. Mr Asiedu Nketia is expected back home on September 29, after attending another official assignment on the Bui Dam in China. Annual Labour Party Conference The annual Labour Party Conference is one of the largest and most high-profile political events in Europe and attended by over 10,000 people from different continents. The conference provides over 500 events, including an opportunity to debate and share ideas, networking and a vibrant exhibition. The conference, which provides a platform for an effective discussion of both social and labour issues, is also to promote social justice in a global economy. The conference is scheduled for Sunday, September 21 to Friday, September 26. Internal complaints Briefing the Daily Graphic, Mr Asiedu Nketia urged NDC members to remain calm in the wake of numerous court injunctions on the partys conferences by some aggrieved members of the party. He explained that the party was dealing with internal complaints and petitions of disqualifications emanating from its ongoing conferences across the country to elect officers at all levels of its leadership. He disclosed that the partys lawyers were dealing with injunctions filed against it in the hope that all matters in court would be successfully dealt with. That, he said, would pave the way for the partys electoral process to continue.
