Apology Not Enough; Compensate Kenu GJA

The president of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) is demanding the payment of a huge compensation to the Daily Graphic reporter who was assaulted by the Gyan brothers, Asamoah and Baffour. Roland Affail Monney was of the view that Daniel Kenu nearly lost his life when he was assaulted therefore a mere apology from the Gyans is not enough. He has had a brush with death and it took the saving arm of God to spare his lifeI think they should find a package and compensate the guy, he said. Kenu was last month assaulted by some heavily built men macho men allegedly on the orders of Baffour Gyan after he questioned the captain of the Black Stars about the disappearance of hiplife artiste, Castro. The Daily Graphic reporter later withdrew the case from the court and dropped the assault charges on Baffour Gyan citing health reasons. Kenus action angered most journalists who believed justice had to be served considering the recent rise in assault cases on media men in the country. The Gyan brothers at a press briefing in Accra however apologized to Kenu and all media practitioners in Ghana but denied hiring the thugs to assault him. On Eyewitness News on Wednesday, the GJA boss expressed satisfaction with the public apology but noted that our stance still remains that justice must be seen to be done to our brother even though he has also angered a lot of us for withdrawing the case under the most dramatic and controversial circumstances. He maintained that even though Kenu disappointed himself and his colleague journalists, he still needs to be compensated.
