A founder member of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) in the Kadjebi District, Mr John Kwadwo Gyapong, has joined the race for the regional Volta chairmanship of the National Democratic Congress(NDC). In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr Gyapong said he was a tried and tested person capable of galvanising the necessary forces to increase votes and membership for the party in the region. He said as regional director for elections for the party in the region from 2010 till date, he was capable of mobilising more voters for the party. He said he was targeting 100,000 votes in the 2016 general election and stopping inroads by other parties in the northern sector of the Volta Region. Proximity to governance Mr Gyapong said his vision was to bring the partys branch in the region very close to the presidency where vital decisions were taken. He added that as an experienced politician, he would make sure women would be empowered, and the youth employed, in addition to fighting for due share of appointments, projects, scholarships and travelling opportunities for the region. Political relationship He said he had worked diligently and maintained good political relationships with all, and as such would not be found wanting in making profound differences as he worked diligently on the job and made many political contributions to gain respect and build personal integrity. Mr Gyapong, who was a member of the Consultative Assembly, is a reliable and self -driven results oriented person, with a positive outlook and a clear focus on high quality output. Ability to mobilise voters He was, therefore, able to increase the voter population in the Volta Region from 1,022,000 to 1,156,000 during the 2012 biometric voter registration with 874, 000 turning out in the general election and the NDC securing 733,000 of the votes in the region. Mr Gyapong was once the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Akan Constituency for two terms, from 1993-1996 and 1996-2000. Vision for party office He said he shared the vision of building a party office with the consensus of the MPs, municipal and district chief executives, regional executives, and ministers from the region for which land had already been acquired and an account opened for the project. Party consolidation He was ,therefore, optimistic that when he won the post of the regional chairman, he would make more changes to consolidate the party in the region, especially when there were only two years to go for another general election.
