Cold Store Operators Angry At ECG

Scores of cold store operators at Nima and its environs in Accra have registered their disquiet about the ongoing load-shedding time table by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). The ECG on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 released a load shedding guide for the whole country with the explanation that the water level in the Akosombo Dam has fallen. But speaking to Today, the visibly angry cold store operators did not understand why government had not found a lasting solution to the energy problems in the country. What was worrying, they expressed, was the fact that their business was suffering hugely following the current erratic power supply. According to Auntie Pokua who operates a mini cold store at Nima, ECG was killing many of the cold store businesses in the country. Other cold store operators who spoke to Today expressed displeasure about the way the President, John Dramani Mahama, always kept giving promises about the energy situation in the country. Their concern was that they were gradually losing customers which they claimed was having huge impact on their businesses. The disgusting aspect is that, in spite of the erratic power supply we still have to pay high electricity tariffs, they lamented. Consequently they called on government to step up its efforts to solve the energy crisis, and bemoaned that we are tired of always hearing that it will be better.
